They are both LCD, just different manufacturing techniques - check Wikipedia.

Back in the old days there used to be a few different types of LCD screen.

You had STN as well as TFT but almost all screens are now TFT.

Anyone remember the old laptops with the STN screens. I used to sell them back in the day an upgrade to TFT was an extra £500+

My first laptop had a TN screen. Not actually mine, but one Dad would bring home from the university to do his work on and that he let me use. They looked horrible compared to TFT panels. I think it was also called dual scan? It really makes you think about how far the technology has come.
