Well, i think i posted on the wrong board a while ago (robotics). anyway, i was asking how a IR receiver works. (stupid). Um, it has a symbol of an LED but the arrows are pointing in instead. The problem is that it seems to be "on" all the time even if i am not placing any "IR" into it. thanks...

I think you have a Photo-Diode as IR receiver.
Are two reasons for "on" when non IR light on it:
1. The photo-diode is in forward polarization (+ at Anode and - at Cathode). You must rotate it in reverse polarisation.
2. The photo-diode is in break-down and must be replaced with new one.
