I know nothing about electronics--HELP

I have a LCD monitor avi connect to hdmi connect dvd player it is connected with converter cable works fine with photo disc. nice picture Great, I thought
I would be able to connect the dvd player to a amp with the red white and yellow cables and be able to watch dvd movie with sound but the dvd player has the red blue green connections and the amp has the red ,white and yellow connections
I get sound but the monitor goes black there has to be a way to connect the 3 devices together.

The red, green and blue connections are component video, while the red, white and yellow are stereo sound and composite video.
