If you'd like to take a snapshot of what you're seeing on your computer screen (screenshot) such as a schematic, here's what you do:

Adding the Screenshot to a Post
Creating a New Thread - Goto the appropriate forum and click the 'Create New Thread' button, which will take you to the Advanced Editor (don't worry it's not that advanced!). Simply click the attachment icon (**broken link removed**) and add the image to be uploaded. Once the file is uploaded you can close the Attachments Popup and complete your Post as normal.
Replying to an Existing Thread - Goto the thread that you wish to reply, and scroll to the bottom where you see the Quick Reply. Click the Go Advanced button. Once you are on the Advanced editor page simply click the attachment icon (**broken link removed**) and add the image to be uploaded. Once the file is uploaded you can close the Attachments Popup and complete your Post as normal.
Recommended Image Types
The image formats GIFs, JPGs, and PNGs are all recommended. These types of image are compatible on all computers without any additional software, and 99% of browsers support them (PNGs sometimes don't work on very old browsers). They also use significantly less space than other image types and are therefore quick to download for other members.
They do slightly differ from one another, here are the pros and cons:
- GIFs are best when the image has a lot of text and straight lines (great for schematics)
- JPGs are best when the image has a lot of gradients and shading (digital cameras always use JPGs)
- PNGs are a new format that surpass the quality of GIFs but are not compatible in very old browsers.

- Bring the browser window to be captured to the foreground.
- Hold the 'Alt' key and press the 'Print Screen' key (often just labeled 'Prt Sc') on your keyboard.
- Open an image editing application such as MS Paint program under Start > Accessories.
- Paste (press 'Ctrl'+'V') the captured image into the application.
- Save the image as a GIF (.gif) file.
Macintosh OSX
- Bring the browser window to be captured to the foreground.
- Press 'Command'+'Shift'+'3' (or 'Command'+'Shift'+'4'). This will save the image to your desktop as a PNG image (.png) with a name such as Picture 1, Picture 2, etc.
