Flame as a Rectifier or Triode

I've found this website, talks about using a flame as a rectifier, a multivibrator and an amplifier. The efficiency and gain are too poor, but still measurable.

Sounds like the wire is acting like some kind of thermocouple.

I don't think so. The fire is a plasma, maybe it's carrying the electrons from wire A to wire B
