Hi,

When say using a 330nf filter cap as the input to a 5v regulator , if instead of a single 330nf we used three 100nf s in parallel would they reject the same ac frequency as the 330 nf or would they only reject the frequencies at 100nf ?

The total value of capacitors in parallel is equal to the sum of their capacitances and, ignoring second order effects such as ESR and stray inductance, will act the same as a single capacitor of the same value, as Ron noted.

330nF is not much of a filter. It is from the input to ground of a voltage regulator IC to prevent the voltage regulator from oscillating. If the input is from rectifiers then you need thousands of uF to filter away 50Hz or 60Hz or 100Hz or 120Hz.
