i have done several of those scrolling message displays, PC interfaced, MCU driven, SMS activated, keyboard decoder LED matrix and my latest project is a LCD command style dot matrix display (you can send LCD commands to dot matrix module), if you can be a little specific about your requirements maybe i can help.
