Probably no one can answer this, but here goes.

Suppose you have a DSL modem in Bridge Mode. SO far, so good. Now there is a PUBLIC IP address assigned to you, probably through DHCP.

If I ping that PUBLIC IP address where does the packet STOP?

The DSL modem?
After the DSLAM?

What I'm trying to get at is: Will the packet stop at my DSL modem or will it travel to the DSLAM and then to the server where that IP address really is?

I suspect the latter.

Now suppose the packet is in-bound to the public IP address. Does the packet see the DSL modem?

Does anybody have any idea?
