Ds1307 with pic 18f4550

Hi everybody...I need help with ds1307. I put a battery in the 3 pin of ds1307 When main power is off the bckup battery must supply ds1307 in order to mantain the data but that is not working well becasue when I restet, ds1307 do not save any data and it begin in 0000 i cannot understand why if the backup battery is connected to ds1307

Could be a duff chip.. I had one the other day... I put it on the colour maximite, for two weeks it didn't remember the time... Then all of a sudden it did... And it did until the UNO32 went pop..

Did you connect it to pin 4 as well and is the battery 3V and not 1.5V?
