Driving LEDs

I have a project with 22 20ma 1.7v LEDS.
I was looking to drive them with a 74act244 at 5v with 330ohm drops.
I have seen some circuits that use two outputs per LED. Why ?
Is this just to keep the current throught the '244 low ?
The data sheet for the TI parts claims 200ma total thru the part.
Ideas ? Thoughts ?..know a better way ?

Thanks,
Rusty

Each output is rated at 50 mA max, so if you want to drive 100 mA, put two outputs in parallel. The LED may be rated for 20 mA continuous, but it will take 200 mA for 10uS (maybe more, I have not tried it).
