Digital signal processors (DSP)

Hi everybody here, i still a student n will join our college's industrial training next semester. But this few day i try to look for this info : digital signal processors (DSP). The reason why i looking for this info is because i found some company require the knowledge of DSP.

Can anybody here told me the powerful of DSP and extra information related knowledge which can improve ourselves in electronic fields.
I realy want to learn more about electronic n hope can help me to further more my study. Thanks a lot.
