On power up or coming out of standby the unit goes into protection. Quick and simple checks I have already done is check incoming voltage; speaker impedence is 8Ω; speaker lead polarity is correct; no stray wire strands against the chassis; and I also reset (initialized) the microproccessor. This unit is fairly new (approx. 2 yrs. old) and it has not by any means been abused. A day in its life would be radio and CD playback at a low to moderate volume. I live in a apartment right across from the manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's normally a sign of an amplifier failure, if the amp connected to the speakers it would probably blow them (high DC voltage out), that's what it's protecting.

Check the main output transistors to see if they have failed short circuit.

I had a similar problem with a Harmon Kardon unit.
