Hi,

I need 9V from 12V Sealed Lead Acid Battery. The plan was to use a LM7809 but the question is, do you still need to use the caps or do they become irrelevant due to the smooth 12V from the battery?

Thanks

hi Andrew,
The 100nF caps on either side of the 7809 are there to stop any oscillation or instability of the 7809.

Some of the newer 78xx series dont need the caps, but as they cost so little , I would fit them.

Thanks Eric,

was hunting in your neck of the woods in April. Was at a friends farm just past Uitenhage. In fact a "hunters pot" is on the menu for this weekend.

Cheers

I was born a Hampshire hog but don't recall there being any Uitenhage in the county. Do you, Eric?

Hi Alec,

there was a most helpful Eric on either this or another forum who had a holiday home in South Africa, Utenhage being reasonably close. May have gotten the wrong bloke then?

Cheers
Andrew
