AC motor - reducing to very low speed (using VFD) needs an outside forced ventilation
Does the DC motor (using dc drive) needs the same ??
 
Not all AC motors VFD driven require cooling fan.
The same as DC, it depends on the motor, for example most treadmill motor are not fan cooled.
