Maybe the OP is an ancient asian just like the old transistor.
Maybe he is fixing an electronic product that is about 50 years old.

Is this diagram correct for the Rusty Nail Project on your Brand New Website?

No, the capacitor in the schematic has the wrong value. The pic is correct.

I used a 0.1 cap in one of them, and it works fine, but lower voltage to the LED. I found a 3300pf cap laying around, so I used it. Anything around 2700pf will work fine.

An LED has nearly a fixed voltage. Its current determines its brightness.

A capacitor with a value much too high lets the oscillator run at a lower frequency where the inductor doesn't work well and the circuit wastes battery current.

well if you build that one you will notice better performance, things are always going to be different if you actually build it.

You might be interested in an alternative site which looks a lot like yours, at **broken link removed** .

Normally it's a bad idea to point to a specific server; best to let the hosting company decide.
