I used a 0.1 cap in one of them, and it works fine, but lower voltage to the LED. I found a 3300pf cap laying around, so I used it. Anything around 2700pf will work fine.

An LED has nearly a fixed voltage. Its current determines its brightness.
A capacitor with a value much too high lets the oscillator run at a lower frequency where the inductor doesn't work well and the circuit wastes battery current.
