I've been looking at a Cricut explore air 2. It basically a plotter, but with a cutting tool instead of a pen.

Power light is solid red. No response to any button that I can find. The USB connection does not register on a PC. The bluetooth signal isn't discoverable.

The machine in powered from 18 V, and there is buck converter to run the processor at 3.3 V. Those parts work. There are couple of DC motors for X and Y, each with optical encoders, a ribbon cable to the cutting head, another to the user controls, a bluetooth module. Everything seems to connect back to the processor, like most modern electronics. The USB data wires go straight to the processor. There is a row of 0.1" pitch PTH holes for programming, and no maker's name on the processor.

Any ideas, suggestions, or experience with one of these?
