im using an optocoupler or an led and photodiode(not decided yet) to count the
number of balls passed.i had calculated that when the light is interrupted during the passage of
ball an output of 3v is produced(this can be changed).i can design the logical counting circuit
but i dont know how to use 3v to trigger the flip flop which triggers at 5v or if i use adder
then how i can produce binary code.plz help
:D

I guess you are asking to change 3v input to over 5v to give logic high?

I assume that:

1) Your counter is running 10vdc
2) Your 3v input is at logic low normally

Ok the easiest way I can see is run your counter off 5v not 10v, this will mean that the 3v is logic high.

Another way is use a transistor to pull down or up a resister, this way you only need over 0.6 volts to change logic state.
