Compiler directives for fuses

How do I go about setting the fuses / configuration bits on an AVR?

I need to set the external oscillator and no oscillator divide. Is there some directive that can be included in the assembly language source code that can set them to avoid the need separately set those bits?

Not being an AVR man, this is the closest I could find ref CONFIG.

Fuses are "programmed" by Hardware, not Software. You can't change anything in code to manage fuses.
