NOT always,depends on what device you are using.Consult the data sheet of your particular device.

Very true! - you should NEVER! code protect a JW UV eraseable PIC, once code protected you can't ever erase it again (for security reasons). Any of the EEPROM or FLASH PIC's though can be erased after code protection, the erasure wiping the code before the code protection is removed.
