What kind of information are you trying to display:?
Is it voltage, frequency, temperature or what.

You have to convert your serial data to parallel (probably BCD). Only you can do that because only you know what form the serial data is. Once you get the BCD data, a 7447 can drive the display. The display is setup for multiplexing, check out the MC14553 for a way to do that.
