Can we interface PS2 Remote control with atmega controllers???

I have Sony's PS2 usb remote controller and I want to interface it with atmega128 controllers.Please Suggest some way to do this...

that was really helpful.But I'm faced with new problem...
I have modified the code according to my hardware.
the prob :the avr is not detecting the device ( I think!!!?).
The display led just go on counting again and again...
