Can I use a frequency counter in a receiver??

I'm looking at something like this - https://www.amazon.com/Acxico-Accuracy-Frequency-Counter-Tester/dp/B09MMY3CV1/ - which I assume is meant for transmitters. Would this work as a frequency readout for a radio? Could I put it in the circuit just before the amplification stage?

In the receiver you measure the local oscillator. That works but you will be off by the IF frequency. So, when I got my counter like that years ago it came with the ability to be offset by 10.7mhz or 455khz for use in a receiver.

This is a common thing done in HAM radios.
