hello all, I'm looking for a rotary potentiometers that can be rotated continuously (obviously alternating between open and closed at one point in its revolution) can anyone recommend a component? Many thanks in advance everyone!

Perhaps you are thinking of a rotary encoder,as they rotatate continously and have either a short or an open.

Alps has a line of pots: RDC50, RDC80 which are low friction position sensing types.

Alternatively you could use some of the new-ish 2 axis analog hall-effect sensors.
