The red wire appears to be broken away from the switch. Solder it back onto the switch.

Not sure where to attach the red cable that has come off. Tried on the end but the light stays on, switch on or off. Not sure if switch is fried or not....Sorry for the lack of info before, thanks.JC

Your switch looks like it's shorted with the white lamp wire?

Can I get a new switch & where from as I will only need one ? Or should I just bin the whole thing ???

It looks like a standard slide switch.

That is a double pole switch with 6 terminals, in two rows of three. You only need a single pole switch and you can connect the terminals in pairs and use the resulting 3 terminals to your circuit.
