Simply put, bias is a voltage applied across a semiconductor junction for the purpose of controlling the current through the semiconductor. Forward bias is voltage applied which is of the correct polarity to cause conduction, while reverse bias is an applied voltage of the opposite polartity -- one which will cause the semiconductor to "block" rather than to "conduct".
