Step 1 - Provide Information
I have 2 - 4.8 volt 1000 mAH NiCD battery packs. I would like to overnight charge them at
the same time from the same voltage source. I have a source that I have put a programable timer shut
off on so that I can turn the power off after ~12 hours.

Step 2 - Ask Question
Is the circuit below a safe way to charge the batteries? Will it allow me to not have to disconnect
the batteries after they are charged?

Thanks a bunch

You're not really 'charging them in parallel', they are being charged totally independently, with their own charging current limiter resistors.

If you were really trying to charge them in parallel I'd be much less happy about it!.
