I'm researching basic electronic parts and was wondering what 12V/24V Auto means. I find it printed on many devises, near the power input jack.

I would deduce that these devices can be powered by either a 12 volt automotive or 24 volt automotive electrical system. Probably with an internal voltage regulator that can handle that input range.

This is just a guess, as I've never seen it: The device works on either 12 or 24 volts and senses which is connected and switches internally to accomodate the inout.

I could be all wet though.
