baffled by 1/4"jack pins on schematic

Heres what I think:

The input is shown as a stereo jack. The middle connection connects to the batteries - . The shield connects to circuit ground. The tip to signal input. By doing this, the circuit only powers up when a mono jack is inserted into the input as this completes the ground connection.

The output jack is a normal mono jack. It connects to a SPDT switch which allows either bypass or effect.
 
Ahh, yes! I see that know! I couldnt work out how the output jack was supposed to be wired. Going to a switch, ahh, yes, ofcourse! DOH!
