Anyone using 18F13K50 with MPLAB?

Got a couple 18F13K50's as filler in a recent order. Went to fire one up tonight and when I go to select the PICkit 2 as programmer MPLAB throws a "PK2Error0025: Failed to load PICkit 2".

I use 18F14K50's all the time with no problems - same chip with more memory.

With the 13K50 I can compile in MPLAB and use the PICkit 2 software to flash the chip. Works fine. But MPLAB? No way.

So do I just have to wait for the next version of MPLAB for this to be fixed? Or what? I'm running v8.60.00.00

In the Select Device dialog box PICkit 2 is yellow. PICkit 3 is green. I have a Sure Electronics PICkit 3 clone on the way, so I guess that will cure the problem when it gets here...

There both beta supported 18f14k50 and the 18f13k50 under mplab v8.63 only problem I have had is the pickit2 will not set vdd to 5 volts. only 3.3

I found this

And this is the fix

Uninstalled all and reinstalled. No change. Ah well. I could drag out my Inchworm+ w/Unicorn and use it, but I probably won't. I just don't care that much. Got lots of other MCUs to play with until the problem gets fixed. I might try it just to see though...

I'm sliding a MUCH faster, newer PC (with Win7 (I hate Windoze)) into this workstation this weekend, so everything will be freshly installed. We shall see if things are different after that.

Are you debugging There is a little thing about IDC header for the 18f14k50 But i have not tried debugging one. There really buggie little chips. Read the Errata

I remember trying and having no success. Then digging a bit and finding out that they don't have debugging built in.

Oh ya, they have some bugs. Most MCUs do.

Just plugged in the Inchworm+/Unicorn (ICD 2) and got the warning about 18F13K50/14K50 programming voltages. ICD 2 won't do 3.3V.

Oh well, no big deal. My PICkit 3 clone will be here in a week or two...

There 5 volt chips for real have to have a 18fLF13k50 to have a 3.3 chip

Special Microcontroller Features:
• Full 5.5V Operation – PIC18F1XK50
• 1.8V-3.6V Operation – PIC18LF1XK50
• Self-programmable under Software Control
• Programmable Brown-out Reset (BOR)
- With software enable option
• Extended Watchdog Timer (WDT)
- Programmable period from 4ms to 131s
• Single-supply 3V In-Circuit Serial Programming™
(ICSP™) via two pins

But you can't program them at 5 volts

SneaKSz you can manually set 18f14k50-ICD maybe need that some day. It works fine at 3.3, but I have to power the chip

for testing. I liked just using the pickit2 for power. Some 5 parts don't like the 3.3 and that's a pain Thanks for the post Sneak
