anyone up for a little challenge?

I need a circuit designing (possibly building) that contols a stepper motor.

When the circuit has an input (12V) the stepper motor will turn a set number of revolutions in one direction. When the input is removed the motor will reverse in the opposite direction the same number of revolutions.

Can anybody help?

It's extremely trivial to do with a PIC!.
