Android ADK with Arduino! WOW!

Here is some big news for the Arduino crowd!

Google has chosen the Arduino as an open source hardware platform for Android phones.

In regard to the Arduino /Google thing ,as an older , not so quick reader of this and user of Arduino what in laymans terms might this mean ?
What might we see coming along?

Hi tytower,

It means that we are not shut out of inventing hardware peripherals for mobile phones. Just imagine if you came up with a nice idea your market is 100s of millions of people.

I was thinking of what would be a great idea, I came up with a device for runners which would measure heart rate as well as other things like body temp via sensors connected to an Arduino which then plugs into the phone logging it all. I'm pretty sure alot of that sort of stuff will soon plug into our phones to log it all.
