can someone tell me the function of 7404 hex inverters

Inverter:

A logic 1 on the input gives a logic 0 on the output.
A logic 0 on the input gives a logic 1 on the output.


Hex:

There are six inverters in the one IC package.

7404 does what any invertor does, it gives the opposite binary output to the input, only it has 6 separate, individual invertors. An invertor, for input logic 1 (5 volts in TTL) will return logic 0 & vice versa.

If u need to use one invertor, u have to buy the whole package of 6, ignore 5 & use one only.

i need to connect 2-character alphanumeric display and 7404 hex inverter. any idea to connect inverter and display pins.
