16F628 timing problem

May I suggest the 887 rather than the 877A as this is the modern replacement. The 16F877A does not have an internal oscillator.

Right... how did I miss that I can't seem to find the 16F887 at Rapid which is where I'm ordering my stuff from. Microchip Direct will sell it but they want me to pay ten times as much as the chip itself once delivery is taken into account Any other ideas for suppliers?

Is there some reason you are not using an 18F pic. They are easier to program.

In what way are 18Fxxxx's easier to program? The ones I'm using seem easy (as easy as you can get with only 30 or so instructions ). Looking at 18F4550 Assembly Tutorial PIC18F.COM - Tutorials and Sample Code the language seems the same also.

Edit: Farnell want £20 minimum order .

It's basically a super-set of the 16F instruction set - as to been 'easier' it's really down to the individual.

The 16F has a 14-bit program word the 18F has a 16-bit program word.
