Fixed! Lacking a 12k resistor of suitable power rating i found a 20k and 30k and put them in r7 and r8 for about 12.5k.
And it's washing again :)
One wonders how many washing machines get thrown out for the sake of a 2w resistor.
Thanks very much for the advice:- in hindsight it ought to have...
Thanks for that - I'll try 12k 1st as that fits with one of the internet pics and the 1st two colour bands on the original resistor - maybe the orange has heat-faded to yellow?
Don't know what the chip actually is - didn't come up on an internet search - but the motor is a universal type and...
it is a very old washing machine, but it does have a large ic on the other side.
can post a pic of the other side, but this big resistor is in a fairly simple part of the circuit:-
starting from the live 230v terminal (bottom left), via R1 (small 100ohms), D1 (400v rectifier top left) to R7...
hello all,
my ancient washing machine has developed a fault: the motor doesn't turn. The motor itself including the brushes seems fine - though i haven't yet tried it with a direct connected supply to confirm.
I think the fault is with the 'digital module' - a Remco 5525 (attached pic). The...
Why re-invent the wheel? the diode test on my very cheap digital multimeter is a 1mA cc, and reads the voltage across the test leads: so a diode shows 0.7v forward, reverse connected is overrange, shorted leads reads zero and a 1k resistor shows 1v, etc.
I assume the resistance ranges use a...
Hmm. OK.
well before i start changing parts I ought to do some more testing - I'll have to look for those enable & latch control pulses you mentioned - i just have to find some time...
thanks - it sounds like you know a lot more about how counters work than I do.
re components: I was looking at farnell - if they listed the ones I was looking for they were 'no longer stocked ' which was why I was thinking they'd gone obsolete. I usually build up a basket with them until it's...
They do stock an sn74ls75n - would the LS version work OK?
Assuming the LS variant is compatible: they only do a sn74ls90d (SMD soic 14) alas, so I still need to find something for that one.
Well my new soldering kit has turned up: did a practice desolder on a junk pcb - the diode didn't survive removal alas - so i tried again at a higher temp (took a while to get the diode hot enough to come off).
Then I removed a couple of faulty smd amps from a digital radio - the radio probably...
Hello all,
I've got this old racal counter with nixie tube display, but when i came to use it recently it seems to have gone faulty:-
Basically, the gate lamp flashes as expected but the display doesn't change - it either comes up with the 'blurred' digits as shown, or 04000 or 04800 when...
OK - it looks like i've got quite a shopping list!
I already have 3 weller tcp soldering irons so I'm probably best off with the hot air only - i had been considering trying a little hot air gun i have that i use for heatshrink - but i suspect it wouldn't get hot enough, judging by the power...
Aye,
I've been comparing the similar devices with different letters and they seem identical - variations of the qty that come on a reel.
All i've got to do now is learn how to desolder/solder smd - might be time to try the hot air gun method i've heard about.
Thanks for your help
