I'm guessing wireless doorbells. If they are purchased why are you trying to hack them, and if they're from a kit or schematic you should ask the manufacturer or the author. Crystals are non-polarized devices so it doesnn't matter which way you hook them up. Solder is the prefered method of attaching components to circuit board. In fact, like Ciarcia, solder is my favorite programming language.
