I've tried calling them but the phone rings off.

Their prices seem pretty good (1/4 price of maplins or less!)
If I could pick up from their address would be ideal.

Cheers

I've never been there, it's French so I suppose you can't just drive round the corner.

I think I'll stick with RS, Rapid and Farnell for now.

The company appears to be a offshoot of a French company Awatronic, composants lectroniques, on the UK website I found several component descriptions in French.

Their address 145-157 st John St is obviously an accomodation address used by many companies, google it to see who else is there.

Similarly their French address 20 rue de Molsheim 67000 Strasbourg
is also an accomodation address judging by the other companies there.

This appears to be an internet based company without a physical shop front which enables them to sell cheaper than Maplin.

Give them a try and see what happens, and let us know.

Awatronics UK and France

I have bought quite a lot of stuff from Awatronics in France (www.awatronics.fr). On several occasions, I have wanted to speak to then on the phone (using their French number). They have never, once answered and I must have tried dozens of times!

However, having said that, I have always received exactly what I ordered, well packed. The only criticism I have of them apart from the phone issue is that they are so damn SLOW. It has always been several days between them receiving the order and dispatching it; most recently, I placed an order on 17 Mar 2010 and I received the dispatch notice on 25 Mar 2010 which means the goods will probably not arrive until next week.

It may also be well worthwhile checking the price of expensive components on both sites. One of the items in my order was a large toroidal mains transformer (Their part number TRFTOR600255); this is currently listed on the French site at €105.23 (= £94.11 according to the FT.com currency calculator) but on the UK site at €154.41 ( = £138.13 ). That is a price difference of around £44 depending of course on the rate of exchange which HUGE!

Before going to haypal how about going straight to Awatronic and asking them first?

Where are you located?

If you're not French, don't be surprised if it takes longer.

Well, so far we have one who says they are slow but do deliver in the end, and one who says they are very slow and possibly distorters of the truth.

Interesting how awatronics sounds so closely to A what!!! :)

Thought I would add my experience of Awatronic - as you can guess by the fact I'm posting, there were problems, as I only found this thread after searching for information on them to find out what was up.

I placed an order on April 23rd for a few each of 3 types of transistors and some capacitors for an audio amp repair, and despite claims of 48 hour shipping on the website I did not even receive an order dispatch email until April the 29th. I then forgot about the order and it wasn't until the 7th of May that my patience ran out and I tried to ring their London number - no answer. I must have tried 10 times during the day, nothing. No contact email address on the website I could find either.

Then today I started ringing again - no answers, but perhaps humorously just as I was ringing a package was pushed through the mail slot and it had finally arrived some 17 days after being first ordered.

It looks like I may have been one of the lucky ones to actually receive what I ordered. Although I haven't tested or fitted the components yet they are well labelled and look ok, arriving in a bubble bag envelope. The labels on the component bags are in French.

It gets more interesting though - as the parts have been sent from Budapest, Hungary! The post stamp date in Budapest is the 6th of March, a full 8 days after the claimed dispatch date.

The sender address was:

AWATRONIC EUROPE
Western Europe Logistics
Szent Istvan Krt 2
1137 Budapest
Hungary

Based on this experience I will not be ordering from this company again. Although the parts did eventually arrive in seemingly good order, they are clearly a virtual operation with no physical presence in the UK, and it appears that it is totally impossible to contact them by phone or email should an order not arrive, or arrive incomplete or damaged in any way.

I have dealt with a number of UK based component suppliers and generally they will dispatch an order the next day and I'll receive it about 2 days later. 17 days waiting and no way to contact them is unacceptable.

Avoid at all costs.

Hi,Mandrake, You know all the probs I.ve had with Awatronic, Or Crapatronic is what I Call them. Its been over five weeks since I gave my order, But after getting no response from them I went back to Paypal,They claimed on my behalf against Crapatronic, And yes I have now got my money back thankyou Paypal..I dont know if you are aware but when you ring the London number and dont get a reply if you let that phone ring you are then disconected It cots you..I rang thirty two times as I thought it was a UK firm, I also tried to get in touch by 118-118 and thats expensive, Well into my sixth week the parts arrived from Budapest, Bear in mind I got my money back.I am not letting Awatronic have them back if they dont pay for my phone calls and the return postage cost up front by Paypal,,And if they do pay it will take aprox six weeks to get there, Stuff Em,,

On the 29th April i made an order with Twatronic UK nothing came so i waited, a week pasted and thought this is not right so i tried the number on the website with no reply so i waited and still nothing then i open dispute with paypal and they emailed me saying it was sent which was the 10th may and its the 15th yesterday and still nothing, checked my emails today and guess what got a email from Twatronic Uk saying the my order has been cancelled and i checked my paypal and there its was my refund. i have no explanation why or anything.

Dont use these Twats there less than useless.

tried to buy some components last month. items did not arrive, tried ringing no answer, tried email to the uk email a few times no reply, tried emailing France 2 times no reply, still no items but payment gone out of my account.

i will stick with farnel i think. my first first experiance of farnel went as follows........i ordered some parts and cable off them to the value of £45 i was told they would be delivered the following day by UPS, but the following day UPS ran out of time to deliver to me using the excuse that i must have my address wrong, so i called farnell that evening to confirm i had given the correct address, there rep assured me that the delivery would be made the following day and was very sorry things had gone wrong, while i spoke with customer services i happened to mention that i would be out the following afternoon, after a short pause she sugested that she made a duplicate order for me at no exspense and had it sent guranteed next day delivery before 9am! and all i would need to do if the origanal package turned up was to call them and they would arrange its collection, again this was to be at no exspense to myself.
the following morning came and went and nigther package had arrived, i called farnell again who were upset that i had been let down by UPS again. then at 5pm that eve both packages arrived together, so i called farnell and explained i had got both packages, now keep in mind that next day delivery is free with farnell.............the woman i spoke to again said how sorry they were for the mix up and rather than put me to the trouble of returning one the packages i could keep both at NO charge as a sorry!!!
it may not have been a mega order to them but i was impressed with the service and the friendly and helpful staff. since then i have used them many times and will continue to do so.

Farnel Is not so bad, But BEWARE, Dont use Awatronic. Or as they are now called by the Electronic guys. CRAPATRONIC, You will struggle to get your bits, And when they do arrive from Guese where Budapest you have to check the package to insure there are no Illegal Immigrants in there.

30 days

I ordered same type transistor who only awatronic have got. I ordered on 8 may and received 1 month later. I calling phone and not answer, e.mail not response, fax neither.
I think who he are same unsociable, but at least they send.
At the end lacked one type of transistor and they offer return money but without giving money.

Hi,
Has anyone else had a good experience with Awatronic?. I had never heard of these people but the seemed to have a UK address and phone number so I sent a small order on the 31st of August. However I did not receive an acknowledgment so next day I tried to phone them to check that they had received the order and when I got a number unobtainable tone I did get a bit concerned so I googled their name and ended up in this forum. No guesses how I felt after I had read the posts and decided to write this one off to experience, not too much harm done as the value was just over £20.00. I was away for the weekend so I decided to leave the reordering till my return. Imagine my surprise when on Sunday I found the package on my doormat. The order was well packed and complete. It must have arrived on the Saturday postmarked o the day of my order it took just 5 days to arrive and yes it did come from Bulgaria. Have these guys finally got their act together together? I may be tempted to use them again if others have had a similar experience and there is no more bad press!!
