Question from Tinkerer1957

Blog entry posted in 'Electronics and Sustainable Energy', May 16, 2015.

    Greetings Mighty Engineers!,

My name is David Adkins and I own the information and equipment store / video-blog Gajetest.com. Now I know enough about electronics to make myself dangerous. Yet over the years this has not stopped me; although, I now have curly hair from all of the shocking results. Yes I am also a bad punster. But I believe we should get these things out in the open and air them out so to say.

What my question is I own Gajetest.com a site dedicated to sustainable energy of all kinds not jusr Solor. I have a B.S. in Sustainable Energy Systems. It's a new degree, it was designed to make managers make their businesses go green with profit. Although, this is a laudable endeavor; I wanted to do more. So I expanded my curriculum to Solar wind and Hydroelectric systems, Then added my own investigation into the use of Biofuel generators. Which I might add have come very far since they were invented in the 1800's and used in the 1920's to run gasoline engines. And then faded to obscurity in America because we were lead to believe we would never run out of fossil fuel. Although, in some countries they rose to new heights and are a formidable alternative to fossil fuel.

As I am want to do I meandered into place that is involved in sustainable energy systems to see what is new, and what is needed. It was a small Mom and Pop garage and I talked to the owner Shaun. He was working on something I have been working on for another purpose but the end result for both of us would be the same.
From 1999 to 2013 almost all Hybrid cars had no way to charge then externally. They could only be charged from the braking system when the car is in motion. Most do not even have a starter. The electric motor does the work until more juice is needed. Then the fossil fuel motor kicks in to help. This we have been told increases the range of the car; because, it uses less gas. As I am sure all of you know, and I have found out; because, of my love affair with the LiFePO4 battery pack for Off-Grid systems; its only draw back of the Li-ion battery pack is if one cell dies the whole system crashes. Well that's a pretty nasty drawback for such a perfect system of a quick to recharge and environmentally safe batteries. Now I have access to intelligent BMS controllers that will tell me when a battery is bad. I don't physically have one so I am waiting to see if it shows me a cell about to go bad (which would be GREAT!) Or it just tells me after the fact which would of course not be so great.

Now after all of that here is my question, there does not exits a external battery charger for Hybrid cars from 1999 to 2013 that could be wired into the battery pack to charge the Hybrid while your at home or at work. Also with micro pulsing of millivolts it would help keep corrosion off of the connections giving the batteries that already have a 10 year warranty even longer life. Like the Edison Li-ion battery is 50 years old this year and still working like new.

Now I propose and yes go ahead and laugh at the newbie I really don't care; because, sometimes even when someone jokes they give a good idea. What I want to know if it can be done. And really I don't understand why it hasn't been already. Is an external Hybrid battery charger. One that has adjustable volts and amps. This way it could be used on any Hybrid. Most are A.C. to A.C. although I have been told D.C. to A.C. are needed also. Now I know this charger would have to have the adjusting pods (if that is away it could be done behind a screw on plate with a non-tamper seal just incase someone thinks that upping the amps or volts would be a good idea. There is always this guy, and blows up, or burns their car garage and home to cinders.

Or maybe a resistor filter to give a particular Hybrid the power it needs to charge. I'm digging out my electronics and physics books today and see how this problem could be approached. Because, if this charger will work for Hybrids, it will also work for Off-Grid charging as wind, solar, biofuel (not so much) for bio fuels are very stable. Whatever contraption you have put together will just need to plug into this charger and they have fluctuating current well mostly the wind. But clouds can be problematic also. I hope I have peaked someones interest, I would love to talk to anyone that wants to tackle this idea.

In addition used LiFePO4 batteries are still 80%viable. This was told to me by American battery company that means that when a LiFePO4 can no longer run a vehicle. It still has over 2000 recharge cycles left in it. A brand new 12 volt Surrette battery by rolls of Canada respected as the best Off-Grid battery money can buy and starts at $1250.00 before shipping and tax only has rechargeable cycles in the 100's, 800 they claim. So you can see why I want to figure this out. Our mission at Gajetest.com is not to become rich. We want the 1%ters out of business. We don't need Reactors didn't japan or the other reactors teach us nothing? We don't need (
oxymoron) clean coal, and we darn sure do not need Fracking I mean how can pumping Disel fuel into our water supply turn out well? And, that is just one of the secret ingredients in Fracking goop. People flames are shooting out of peoples kitchen sinks because of natural gas has been pushed into their water supply. Crops die, livestock die. Whole homes explode!
Even if you think I'm an Obama socialist nutcase please read up on energy. We or other countries have all the technology to make anywhere from Antarctica to the North Pole Off-Grid and do it cheaper than the power companies. In addition, the power you get from you pure sine wave inverters is cleaner than that coming from the Power Company heck hook your oscilloscope to their power and see.
Well thank you I am passionate about this come see my site everything I write down is backed by scientific fact.
