Wireless RF module - Bit bashing

The Nordic transceiver you linked to uses SPI. Most intelligent transceivers will use SPI with a few optional or not so optional other control lines.

If you want the absolute simplest thing possible, then you would use and XBee module, which uses UART (not SPI) and is really pretty expensive, but that Nordic module is just under $20 and the cheapest chip antenna XBee looks like about $23, so not that much different. You'll need a 3.3V supply for it, though the data lines are 5v tolerant.
