Wireless Network Scanner

I would like to build a device that scans for wireless networks. What parts would I need for this? I would also like LED's to light up according to the signal strength.
 
Kensington has a unit that does exactly what you're asking for. Google "Kensington" and see what happens. But if you really want to build one, then good luck. It looks pretty involved. :)
