What voltage?

you can also:

-get a 16LF628, wich can run from 2V...
-use a 78L05 (small & cheap) 5V reg on your 8V line to feed the pic...

If you run it of 3.3V and the pic controls some of the 8V devices, do remember some of them may need an extra interface circuit...
 
Time spent in nothing

So many postings spent in something like running a PIC with 8V supply!
