Total BS. If you routinely re-charge to >16V, your battery will be dead in about 4 months... (grid oxidized away). The blogger totally misses that car batteries are different now than they were in 1920.
otoh, a once-a-year Equalization charge (constant-current, so the terminal voltage will exceed 16V for a short while) will do wonders for improving the longevity of flooded-cell automotive starting batteries; not so much for SLAs, which do not tolerate overcharge.
