Weller iron tips are made from copper or brass?

AFAIK They are nickel ar chromium plated but the plating is very thin and if you use the iron to desolder things you can damage the tip very easy.

Why don't they make thicker plating? like at least 1mm or 1.5mm of iron at the tip of the screwdriver tip?

All the tips I have seen are copper. I believe they are iron plated.

I don't understand your basic premise that you can't desolder with them. What's the difference between desoldering and soldering?

My Weller soldering iron tips last for many years. I use a mechanical (piston) solder sucker (slurp!).
