Volt Amp

Hey

I need to know what a volt amp is because i need to select a transformer for a project im doing in shcool but all the ratings are in volt amps. i've looked on wikipedia but i don't really understand it very much.

Watts are the power used by an item.
But a transformer does not use Watts, instead it passes Volt-Amps to its load.
Volt-Amps is the volts times the amps.
