hi,
If any Oshonsoft users have an old Velleman K8055 USB pcb on the shelf, its easy and cheap to convert to a 18F2550 PIC and enable its use with the Oshonsoft Sim IDE HIDTerminal and the Visual Basic sample program provided by Oshonsoft.
1. Replace the 6mHz xtal with a 20mHz xtal.
2. Replace the two 33pF caps on the xtal to 22pF.
3. Remove the 1K5 resistor linking pins 14 and 15 on the PIC's IC socket.
4. Cut the pcb track to pin 1 [[/MCLR], use a thin jumper wire from pin to 'Inp5' switch push button '5'. This makes Inp5 switch a RESET button.
5. Link the cut track end to a +5V pin, reconnects the resistors, due to earlier track cuts.
EDIT:
As the PIC is now a 18F series it means that Swordfish Basic can also be used
