VCA Circuit

Hi:

I found this circuit looking for VCA circuits. It looks simple enough for me....but have no idea for the components values. The site were I got it did not indicate any values. Can you give me a start on the components values? Also which transistor can be used?. My plan is to modulate (amplitude) an audio signal with the audio signal (from a microphone-preamp) of a violin.
