usb port interfacing

Hi there ...

I wana to build a device that makes me able to turn on and off a led connected to pc through usb port.

any one can help me do this ??

The outer pins of the USB connector are supply voltage.

Pin1=+5VDC, pin2=data-, pin3=data+, pin4=ground.

Connect the load only to the outer pins. Use a 180Ω current limiting resistor for the LED.

thanx to your reply, but I want to be able to turn on and turn off the LED through a programe that written in vb6.

I mean "controlling the USB port".

The FT245R is a USB to parallel IC.

Look at the USB Wacker link in my signature.
The example code uses Liberty Basic instead of VB
but it should be easy to translate.

Hi Bill, do you know of a similar chip that is Thru-Hole - This looks like exactly what I need, but I dont really want to get this AND an adapter to fit my breadboard.

Nope all FT232 IC are surface mount. I'd use a 18F2550 and bitwhacker or Swordfish full edition (supports USB)

I think you can wire and read data from USB using **broken link removed** activeX in visual basic
