Types of transistors?

well, there are lots of types of transistors. BJTs, JFETs, MOSFETs (Enhancement mode MOSFETs and Depletion Mode MOSFETs), Darlington Transistors, IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor), MESFET, HEMT, PHEMT, UJT (Unijunction Transistors), VMOS Transistors........... and the list goes on.

search on google for each type, get the book "The Art of Electronics", read the page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transistor, and http://amasci.com/amateur/transis.html, and **broken link removed**, and **broken link removed** .......... 8)

With the advent of nanotechnology and quantum computing, something called Single Electron Transistors(SET) have also come in to existance.

For common applications aren't bipolar transistors the most versatile ?

What are field effect transistors and how are they used ?

btw thank some o @ mit for the SET...
