Hi,

The input to a system is u(t) = 1 + 2t which is U(s)= 1/s + 2/s^2 which i have managed to simplify to s+2 / s^2

The output is y(t) = 2t - 1 + e^-t which is Y(s)= 2/s^2 - 1/s + 1/(s+1)

My problem is i haven't managed to simplify it like the first one....

I can get it to (2-s)/s^2 + 1/(s+1)

I need to get it into a simpler form so i can find the transfer function Y(s)/U(s).

Help on this would be greatly appreciated......

I get:

U(s) = (s+2)/s^2
Y(s) = (s+2)/(s^2*(s+1))

giving Transfer fn as: 1/(s+1)

I agree with Styx, so you must be having a problem with the algebra.

So if you still can't solve it, post your maths in detail so we can see where you are going wrong.

Thanks for the replies,

Yeah i can't do the algebra...

I can get it Y(s)= (2-s)/s^2 + 1/(s+1)

but don't know how to simplify it to Y(s) = (s+2)/(s^2*(s+1))

If you could explain the necessary technique that wld be great...
Thanks

The attached shows the equivalent procedure in arithmetic.

You follow exactly the same procedure in algebra.
