Timing delay

Hi, I am looking for a small timing delay circuit. When the input is triggered i need the output to stay on for a certain time(adjustable msec.) then swith off. This is all just low voltage, (ON=+5v, OFF=0v)I am thinking of a 555 timer, any other ideas or how to wire up the 555?

I haven't used this circuit, but I remember that a "one-shot circuit" can give you a delay time.

its alot simpler to wire up if you have never used a 555 timer before and easier to find any problems or change.
