Thank you for choosing to join Electro-Tech Online.

This is a site for electronics enthusiasts worldwide.

The aim of the site is to enable electronics enthusiasts of all abilities and experience to share knowledge and to discuss electronics and related topics.

Electronics can mean any electrical circuit, from those using miniature surface-mount components up to large current industrial equipment.

If it uses electricity, it is electronics related.

The members here range from people who know nothing about electronics of any sort all the way up to lifetime experienced engineers and technicians with world class credentials, and all levels of experience in between.

Although the member base is widely diversified we do have some common rules that everyone here must follow.

Language

This is an English speaking site.

If you wish to participate please do your best to use correct English while communicating your thoughts.

If you are using an online language translator to make your question better understood please say so.

If your English language ability is poor, posting your question in your native language together with the translated form would be very helpful to everyone.

Since this is a worldwide forum, many members here can read and speak multiple languages. Therefore it is possible that someone will translate your question into English for you if it is written correctly.

Text Speak (Cell Phone Shorthand) is not a valid language here. Please type your questions and answers in full words and sentences.

If you want a meaningful reply, provide all of the related information regarding your question/problem. This may include, but is not limited to, images, files, articles, schematics, links to trustworthy websites, and other resources. Any relevant information you can provide will give other members more context and will lead to clearer, more specific answers.

You do not need to have perfect writing skills, but the more accurate you make your questions and answers, the better will be the advice which you receive in return.

Equality

This is a universal equality site.
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Race
  • Health
  • Nationality
  • Heritage
  • Religion
  • Political Affiliation
  • Country of Residence
do not hold any significance here.

Everyone here is simply a picture and some text on someone else’s monitor.

Safety

Safety is important to everyone.

Ultimately you and you alone are responsible for your own safety regarding any circuit, device, or system you are working on.

Keep in mind that some members here may be as highly skilled and experienced as others are incompetent and careless.

That means that no one but you, the end user, can see and accordingly judge the potential dangers that others' advice or suggestions may hold for you, based on your present skill sets and knowledge of what you are attempting to do.

If you are not sure if something someone says is safe or legal, ask follow-up questions and do more research before attempting it. It is ultimately your responsibility to determine whether or not a solution is safe and legal. Use the information you get here at your own risk and to the best of your own judgment.

Behaviour

This site is for people of all ages, young and old, so act accordingly and keep the profanity to yourself.

Profanity and vulgar language, along with inappropriate pictures or linking to inappropriate sites, is not allowed here.

All such offenses are subject to moderator editing or outright deletion, with the possibility of a temporary or permanent ban based on the seriousness of the offense. Posting of private information is also prohibited and will also be edited or deleted without hesitation.

Forbidden

The following activities are strictly forbidden in the forum:
  • Posting SPAM. i.e. Commercial advertising of any kind.
  • Posting, or linking to sites with, material which is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.
  • Posting, or linking to sites which offer, information about how to perform illegal activities.
  • Soliciting information about how to perform illegal activities, such as jamming a cell phone.
  • Posting, or linking to sites which offer, illegal copies of copyrighted material.
  • Soliciting illegal copies of copyrighted material, such as “cracked” software.
  • PHISHING. i.e. seeking personal information about other people
Polemics

Controversial topics such as:
  • politics,
  • religion,
  • politically biased science,
  • climate change,
  • over-unity/free energy,
  • conspiracy theories,
  • space alien abduction,
are not necessarily off limits.

However, unless you can provide scientific proof or evidence, we do not recommend pushing these topics on others.

If not discussed in an open and neutral manner, threads or posts of such topics may be locked or deleted at the discretion of the moderators and/or administrator.

Disagreements

When two or more people disagree, they may state their points of contention in a professional manner including any supporting information to back up their point.

To the best of the site's ability, no single moderator can act as judge, jury, and executioner in a disagreement with any single member or group of members, unless a rule has obviously been broken.

When a moderator and a member have a disagreement related to the rules, the member and moderator may take their case to the other moderators for resolution via a written private message. The administration is the last recourse if the member or moderator does not agree with the other moderators' decision. Either party can make their case to the administrator for final resolution via a written private message with a copy to all others involved. The others have a chance to state their case. The administrator may appoint someone to act as a binding arbitrator by notifying all involved, and forwarding all relevant private messages to whomever the administrator decides should act as a binding arbitrator.

Unacceptable behavior includes blatant temper tantrums, trolling, bashing, flaming, or insulting other members.

Simple disagreement is not breaking a rule.

Changes

From time to time it may be necessary to change the rules of the forum.

Administration has the right to change or modify rules at will without notice. However all reasonable steps will be taken to make members aware of changes to forum rules.

Moderators

The role of moderators is to:
  • Keep the site clean, organized and presentable to all ages.
  • Help members with site-related organization.
  • Settle disputes between members.
This may involve:
  • Removing unreasonable postings from threads
  • Moving threads to more fitting locations within the site.
  • Removal of multiple posts (either accidental and deliberate duplications)
  • Locking threads which have caused excessive/inappropriate arguments.
  • Deletion of threads or postings which are inappropriate.
Upon a disagreement or rule infraction by a member, moderators are here to work first as mediators.

Only when a defined rule is broken or being excessively pushed shall they take what actions are deemed necessary regarding possible warnings or discipline of the member.

Banning a member for any reason other than spam or intentionally harmful posts is a last resort, and will only be done after review by multiple moderators, and if necessary, the administrator.

Thank you.
